The Invitation
The help works. The dependence grows.
After an attack, a country invites foreign protection. Security offers a way through the crisis. Accepting it begins to change who controls the decisions that follow.
Engineers, political leaders, security officials, and journalists face the consequences as an invitation becomes something harder to take back.
The Invitation begins A.L. Tran's adult geopolitical thriller series about security, sovereignty, and the human cost of surrendering a decision.

SCADA said the east transfer valve was fully open.
Elias Narevi put his palm on the discharge pipe and felt the pump fighting something.
The steel was hot enough to sting. He left his hand there anyway, fingers spread over the painted surface while the motor hummed through the concrete pad beneath his boots. The vibration had a rough edge to it, a small unevenness he could feel more clearly than he could hear.
Behind him, Milo said, “Position sensor says one hundred percent.”
“So does the screen.”
Milo looked from the tablet to Elias. “That was my point.”
Elias took his hand off the pipe. “Then they agree with each other.”
Milo waited.
“That wasn’t praise.”
